FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What subjects and languages do you offer tutoring in?

We offer lessons for academic tutoring in practically all subjects as well as conversational instruction in a wide variety of languages. For academic instruction we help students to improve their grades in all courses. In order to achieve this we assist with improving study habits, helping with homework assignments, test prep, projects, and general communication with their teachers. Many of our instructors have both been High School teachers / college professors previously if not currently, we have a very deep understanding of the requirements, needs and expectations of teachers in academic settings.

Are lessons online, in person, or both?

We offer lessons both in person and online. For our in-person lessons we typically meet with our clients at their residence, offices or a public place that is close to our clients home. We also work via Zoom and on Google Meet. With most of our lessons being one on one, people find the online lessons to be just as effective and it makes for easier scheduling and meeting due to zero commute.

How do I schedule or reschedule a lesson?

Once you connect with your personal instructor, you will be able to contact them in regards to scheduling and when necessary rescheduling. Most of our students prefer to book weekly or bi-weekly slots in order to ensure that they will be able to meet with consistency. We describe ourselves as personal trainers for language acquisition meaning we are here to help you along the way with your language journey. For that reason we try our best the offer the best flexibility possible with meeting your schedule’s needs as well as helping you get a routine set for your studies.

How long until I am fluent in another language?

Fluency is not a definitive point in language acquisition meaning that there are varying degrees of proficiency as well as varying degrees of fluency. Students with no background in a language will typically have a very strong foundation in the present tense and will be starting the past tenses after a month of lessons. Like any other skill, the amount of effort and time that you dedicate outside of class as well as during will help to expedite the process. We describe language acquisition as a snowball effect meaning the more you progress the more your pool of vocabulary and knowledge grows. This builds momentum on your path to fluency.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions rates depend on a variety of factors including frequency, package rates, travel costs etc. As well as for academic instruction, most AP and Honors courses will be more costly than general ed. Give us a call to specify details and find out the respective rate.

How often should I schedule a lesson?

We typically recommend meeting twice a week to optimize the rate of foreign language acquisition, but if once a week is a more viable option then that works as well.
